GARCETTI CELEBRATES HOLLYWOOD FIRE STATION 82 OPENING
Los Angeles City Councilmember Eric Garcetti joined Councilmember Tom LaBonge and Chief Brian Cummings to celebrate the opening of the new Fire Station 82 in Hollywood.
"Having worked closely with Los Angeles firefighters during the last eleven years, I know what a first-rate job they do -- and now Fire Station 82's home is as first-rate as the men and women who work here," said Councilmember Eric Garcetti.
The station is a major upgrade to the old Fire Station 82, which had its original electrical, mechanical, and plumbing system from the early 1950s. Parking, seismic safety, climate control, and ADA compliance issues have also been addressed in the new building.

The site of the old Fire Station 82 on Bronson Avenue was too small to accommodate the upgrades the Fire Department wanted to include in the new facility. Through Proposition F (passed by voters in November 2000), the new station was constructed at Hollywood Boulevard and Van Ness Avenue.
Fire Station 82 protects a 2 square-mile area that includes residences, commercial properties, studios, tourist destinations, and the Hollywood sign.

GARCETTI RECRUITING ANTI-GRAFFITI BLOCK CAPTAINS
Councilmember Garcetti is currently recruiting Block Captains for this anti-graffiti program, Uniting Neighborhoods to Abolish Graffiti (UNTAG).
Through UNTAG, local residents and business owners volunteer as block captains who will monitor one block or one hot spot for graffiti. When they find graffiti, they report it via phone or online to the City’s Department of Public Works for removal. The program is also designed to retain volunteers by limiting the area for which they are responsible.
"UNTAG relies on the simple premise that if we all pitch in a little, we can have a huge effect on the environment around us," said Councilmember Garcetti.
If you are interested in becoming a Block Captain, please call our office at 323/957-4500. You can also learn more about UNTAG here.
GLASSELL PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WINS RECYCLING COMPETITION
Glassell Park Elementary 5th graders led the effort to recycle 75 bins of materials to win the Chivas USA Recycling Competition. The school took the Recycling Champ title during a two-week competition organized by Heal the Bay, Chivas USA, City of Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation, and the Aquarium of the Pacific.
"Congratulations to Glassell Park Elementary School fifth graders for winning the competition and demonstrating how we can all be part of the effort to keep our neighborhoods clean and healthy," said Councilmember Eric Garcetti.
