North Hollywood Man Charged in Fatal Subway Stabbing

Prosecutors are asking that Angelo Correa's bail be set at $1 million.

A murder charge was filed today against a North Hollywood resident accused of stabbing a man after a verbal dispute on a Metro Red Line subway train at a station beneath Vermont Avenue last week.

Angelo Correa, 24, was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Los Angeles Superior Court in connection with the death of Jose Edgaro Velazco- Alvarado.

Velazco-Alvarado, 34, was stabbed about 9:20 a.m. Jan. 13 aboard a Red Line train, which stopped at the Vermont/Santa Monica Boulevard station. He died at a hospital.

The attack was reportedly captured by a video camera inside the train.

Correa was arrested Friday at his North Hollywood home.

The criminal complaint alleges that Correa used a folding knife in the commission of the crime.

Prosecutors were asking that his bail be set at $1 million.
