Hollywood Nightclub Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, Others Injured

One man is gunned down and another punched in the mouth during a fight that began at the club.

One man was fatally shot and a woman suffered a graze wound as a fight inside a party at a Hollywood nightclub ended with gunfire early Sunday, a police sergeant said.

Another man, originally reported as being shot, actually was punched in the mouth just prior to the shooting. He was hospitalized with stable life signs, said Sgt. Mark Ro, watch commander at the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Division.

The problems inside the Empire Club at 1724 North Cahuenga Blvd. were reported at 2:05 a.m., Ro said.

"A fight inside the nightclub spilled outside," Ro said.

The two male victims were both about 20 to 25 years old, according to the police sergeant.

A woman who was crossing the street near the club was slightly grazed by a bullet but did not require treatment at a hospital, he added.

Ro said detectives refused to give any details of the suspect or his vehicle, adding that "detectives might do a press release later [Sunday] morning."

NBC4 News reported the deceased man was shot in the head, and witnesses told police they heard about 10 shots fired outside the nightclub.

The gunman fled before officers arrived on the scene, Ro continued.

Witnesses have provided some information about the shooter and detectives will review security videos to see if the attack was caught on tape, he said.
