An unattended backpack found at the entrance to the Metro Red Line's Hollywood/Western Station prompted an evacuation and street closure today, but a bomb squad determined the backpack did not pose a threat.

The backpack was found around 9:50 a.m. at the station in the 5400 block of Hollywood Boulevard, according to Los Angeles police spokesman Richard French.

The station was evacuated and a stretch of Hollywood Boulevard was blocked while a bomb squad investigated the backpack. Red Line trains bypassed the station during the investigation.
