Neglected, Abused Farm Animals Rescued by California Woman

Patch readers told us who the "Everyday Inspirations" in their communities are, and we're sharing their stories and the work they've done locally.

Everyday Inspirations is a series that features people in Patch communities who inspire others through their work, or people who have faced extraordinary situations and grown from them. They have been featured by other people in the community that have been inspired by the nominees.

Name: Elizabeth Steed
Town: Hollywood, CA
Nominated by: Joan Van Scyoc

Why is this person an "Everyday Inspiration?"
Elizabeth has given all of her time and money to rescue abandoned, neglected and abused farm animals, mostly horses.

She established a nonprofit organization to do this and to educate others on why this work is so important and how to properly treat these animals. Her kind heart and tireless efforts inspire so many in and around our community.

Has the nominee's life been changed in an extraordinary way?

Elizabeth lost her son a few years back in a devastating car accident. This could have sent her life in many directions, but she chose to use the pain, emotion and faith in God to turn her horrific loss into one that gives back to God's creatures.

She transformed her painful experience into one that gives back through kindness, understanding, rescuing and giving comfort to those great and small. She often says that she was the one who was rescued.

How does this person work to make others' lives better?

Elizabeth uses her talents, skills and heart to teach local youth engaging them in participating in how to treat and care for these throw away animals. The youth in-turn volunteer at the rescue and become caring, community oriented adults. She has over 2,600 followers on Facebook who support her efforts and the county knows who to turn to when the hard cases appear.
