Terrorism Symposium Planned for Hollywood

The LAPD Hollywood Division will host this month's event.

Protecting Hollywood from terrorism is the topic of discussion at an upcoming symposium that will be hosted by the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Division.

The workshop is the brainchild of Hollywood LAPD Captain Beatrice Girmala who wanted to focus on the subject "since Hollywood is considered one of the mecca areas for people to come here from all walks of life," said Sergeant Darrell Davis. "We get people from every country that come to Hollywood."

Recent news has also factored into making this the perfect time to host the "Terrorism Awareness Symposium," according to Davis.

"Since the whole issue with the bombings in Boston, a lot of departments are looking at doing something," Davis said.

Nada Bakos, a former CIA analyst sent to Iraq after 9/11 to help track down Osama bin Laden, terrorism expert Brian Michael Jenkins and Michael Downing, the LAPD's Deputy Chief of the Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations Bureau are among those scheduled to speak at the event.

The symposium is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, at Paramount Studios at 5555 Melrose Ave.
