Why go: Cirque Du Soleil: IRIS opens in the newly retrofitted Kodak Theatre this weekend. The show brings together dance, acrobatics, live video, filmed sequences and animation. The performance takes audiences on a journey through the history of cinema, genres and the movie-making process.

2. 2011 Hollywood Book Fair
Where/When: Space 15 Twenty, 1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd, Los Angeles, 90028. Saturday, July 23, at 2:30 p.m.
Why go: Join in the fun with authors, who will read and sign books, and the Drinks with Authors program, where you will get a free drink with a purchased book. There will also be live music performances.

3. Meet Superheroes Captain America and Spiderman at the LA Zoo
Where/When LA Zoo, 5333 Zoo Dr, Los Angeles, 90027. Saturday and Sunday, July 23 - 24, at 11 a.m.
Why go: This is super, great fun for hero admirers of all ages to get a chance to photograph with superheroes. Enjoy a stroll throughout the zoo and celebrate with the superheroes by wearing red, white and blue.

4. Film screening of "It Happened One Night"
Where/ When: Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, 90038. Saturday, July 23, gates open at 7:30 p.m. and show starts at 9 p.m.
Why go: It’s always relaxing and enjoyable to put a picnic together, grab blankets and go see a screening of a Hollywood black and white film classic. There will also be live DJ music before and after the screening.

5. LA-Based Jewelry Designer Rochelle Rached of Mapache Yard Sale

Why go: This yard sale is hosted by jewelery designer Rochelle Rached, of Mapache jewelry. Peruse accessories all while having fun at the Space 15 Twenty courtyard.
