Update: Exhausted Hikers Rescued in Hollywood Hills

Two uninjured hikers are hoisted in a Fire Department helicopter from Franklin Canyon Park.

Update:

A man and a woman in their 20s were airlifted Saturday to the top of Franklin Canyon Park in Hollywood Hills, where they were hiking, after they called 911 and said they were too exhausted to hike any further.

The duo, "possibly boyfriend and girlfriend," did not wish to offer any information about how long they had been hiking and whether or not they were carrying water, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Brian Humphrey said.

Both the hikers were uninjured and flown in an LAFD helicopter to a large paved lot on Mulholland Drive, near Fire Station 108, atop Franklin Canyon Park, Humphrey said.

The rescue is estimated to be part of roughy 1,200 incidents across Los Angeles to which the LAFD typically responds on a warm weekend day such as Saturday, Humphrey said.

"At this rate, we'll likely be on average by midnight," Humphrey said, adding that more than 600 people are taken to hospital on such days.
