Shatner Debuts 'Captains' Documentary for Trekkies at Hollywood Cemetery

The actor who made Kirk famous shows off his film to a group of loyal "Star Trek" fans.

About 500 Star Trek fans were treated to a free screening of The Captains, a new documentary directed by William Shatner, at the Hollywood Forever Memorial Cemetery on Monday.

The documentary follows Shatner, the original Capt. Kirk and star of the TV series, as he interviews five other actors who have filled the command chairs of ships in the Starfleet.

The audience of Trekkies were seated in lawn chairs and blankets on grass in front of a massive, white wall of one of the cemetery's buildings. Shatner told them making the documentary was a rewarding experience.

"It's a labor of love. You just struggle to find those nuggets during the editing process, and you create gold," he said.

The screening, which was hosted by Viacom-owned cable TV channel Epix, started after sunset. The audience cheered when each captain, from Sir Patrick Stewart to the newest one, Chris Pine, showed up on screen.

Shatner made sure to thank those fans in the audience who had displayed such loyalty to the Star Trek brand over the years.

"I can't be grateful enough, I can't be effusive enough to all of you," he said.
