“Just Imagine” (1930) Screening & Panel – ADG Film Series 2012

The Art Directors Guild (ADG) Film Society and The American Cinematheque will screen “Just Imagine” (1930) on Sunday, August 19, honoring Oscar®-winning Art Director Stephen Goosson at the Aero Theatre. A special panel discussion will follow the screening with Nicholas Cull, Professor of Public Diplomacy at USC’s Annenberg School. Mr. Cull’s books include Projecting Empire: Imperialism and the Popular Cinema and the forthcoming Projecting Tomorrow: Science Fiction and the Popular Cinema. Production Designer John Muto will moderate a panel discussion.

In 1930, Hollywood produced -- in answer to METROPOLIS -- a romantic science fiction musical comedy, set in the unimaginably distant future of 1980, and starring Maureen O’Sullivan, El Brendel, and Joyzelle. From the skies of a New York City filled with flying cars; to the caverns of Mars, filled with writhing showgirls; this picture has it all.

The 2012 ADG Film Series celebrates the ADG’s 75th Anniversary and is sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter.
