Celebrate Spring's Arrival or Take Tweens to a Concert

Hollywood Patch's best weekend bets for the family.

There are plenty of family-friendly events on this first weekend of spring. Selena Gomez has a charity concert with Jonas Brothers, the Getty Center has a Family Festival or play tourist at the Hollywood Wax Museum.

Concert for Hope -Selena Gomez, Jonas Brothers & Allstar Weekend

Where/When: Gibson Amphitheatre, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, Sunday, March 20 at 5 p.m.

Why go: The very popular Disney star Selena Gomez headlines this show along with the Jonas Brothers with proceeds going to cancer research. This is the third annual concert and in the past have raised more than $1 million for City of Hope. Your tween will love you, but bring your earplugs. Not because of the loud music, expect thousands of screaming teenagers.

Family Festival at the Getty Center

Where/When: The Getty Center, 1200 Getty Center Dr., Los Angeles, Saturday, March 19 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why go: The experience of the Getty is one your children will never forget starting with the tram up the side of the hill to the amazing views from the top. Bring the whole family to enjoy Chinese folktales, music, photography and dancers.  The festival will feature Shaolin warriors and Chinese acrobats.

Price: $15 for parking and admission is free.

Saturday Night Full Moon Gazing 

Where/When: Vista Hermosa Natural Park, 100 N. Toluca Street, Los Angeles,   Saturday, March 19,  7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why go: Celebrate the spring equinox with your family as you watch the moon rise in Hermosa Natural Park Grotto Amphitheater. For more information call: 213-250-1100.

Hollywood Wax Museum

Where/When: Hollywood Wax Museum 6767 Hollywood Blvd. Open 10 a.m. to midnight

Why go: There's a reason this place is a giant tourist attraction. True we drive by it all the time, but when is the last time you took the family? Why not play tourist for the day and see all the new exhibits. Bring your camera!

Price: Buy tickets online to save money. Adults: $12.95, kids (5-12) $5.95 and kids under 5 are free.

Hans Christian Andersen's The Nightingale

Where/When: Stella Adler Theatre 6773 Hollywood Blvd. West Hollywood, Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m. and Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m.

Why go: The beautiful classic story of the greedy, out-of-touch emperor distracted by material things is told with humor for the little ones. And the lesson the beautiful Nightingale teaches is timeless. For more information call call: 323-465-4446.
