THC Extraction Attempt Causes West Hollywood Explosion

A suspect allegedly using flammable gas to extract THC from marijuana for hash oil blew up his place Friday night, officials said.

One person was injured and 12 others were displaced in the explosion -- reported at 6:50 p.m. at 1260 Havenhurst Drive, according to fire officials.

The injured person was burned and taken by ambulance to a trauma center, officials said.
 
The blast was caused by someone in the apartment building using a
flammable gas to extract the active ingredient THC from marijuana to make a
substance called honey oil, county fire Investigator Quvondo Johnson told
reporters at the scene.

Two units in the building were red-tagged as uninhabitable, a county fire dispatcher said.

Honey oil, also called hash oil, contains concentrated THC and produces
a more intense altered consciousness experience than unrefined marijuana.

It is often extracted from low- grade marijuana or parts of the plant such as leaves and stems that are considered less desirable by users, according to marijuana-related websites.
