Former Attorney Pleads Guilty in Girlfriend's Shooting Death

David Mahler faces sentencing on April 13 for voluntary manslaughter.

A former New York attorney pleaded guilty Friday to voluntary manslaughter for the May 2007 shooting death of his girlfriend at his Hollywood Hills home.

David Mahler, 47, is expected to be sentenced to 21 years in state prison when he returns to court April 13, according to Deputy District Attorney Bobby Grace.

Mahler was initially convicted in September 2009 of second-degree murder and sentenced a month later to 40 years to life in prison for the May 2007 shooting death of Kristin Baldwin, whose body was discovered the following month in the desert near Barstow by good Samaritans who stopped to help a stranded motorist.
