Criminal Proceedings Suspended Against Woman Arrested at 'American Pie' Actor's Home

Roxanna Bear is ordered to be sent to the Mental Health Courthouse.

Criminal proceedings were suspended Friday against a woman accused of arming herself with a knife and barricading herself inside the Hollywood Hills home of "American Pie" actor Eddie Kaye Thomas, prompting a nearly six and a half hour standoff last month.

Roxanna Bear, 32, was ordered to be sent to the Mental Health Courthouse after her attorney declared a doubt about her mental competency.

The next Los Angeles Superior Court date in the case is May 23.

Bear—who also goes by the name Sun Warner—was charged April 19 with one felony count of vandalism with over $400 damage and one misdemeanor count each of exhibiting a deadly weapon, interference with a wireless communication device, false report of a criminal offense and resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer.

She was ordered to stay away from the actor and his home.

Police were called to the scene at 1:09 p.m. April 17 after Bear allegedly pulled a knife on Thomas, who left the home and called police.

The woman had spent the night at the home but became angry when she was asked to leave and armed herself with a knife, LAPD Lt. Andrew Neiman told reporters at the scene.

Police sharpshooters were called in, along with negotiators to try to talk her out of the house. Officers eventually used flash-bang grenades and tear gas to enter the home and take her into custody about 7:30 that night, police said.

The vandalism charge alleges damage to phone lines, a cell phone, home furnishings, windows, a guitar and clothing.

Thomas, 32, is best known for his role as Paul Finch in the "American Pie" film series.
