The Rite of Spring
The Rite of Spring
July 23 8PM
Hollywood Bowl
One hundred years ago, Serge
Diaghilev and his Ballets Russes shocked Paris – and ultimately the world –
with The Rite of Spring.
It was the crab-footed Primitivist choreography of Vaslav Nijinsky that caused
most of the initial outcry, but it was the music by Igor Stravinsky – radically
stressed in meter and rhythm, rooted in Russian folk music, and brilliantly
scored – that worked the most thorough revolution.
A masterpiece of orchestral color
and energy led by a master of those elements.
A fiery and expressive young virtuoso tackles the
temperaments of Tchaikovsky’s beloved Concerto.
