CicLAvia to Shut Down a Portion of Wilshire for an Open-Street Festival

A six-mile stretch of Wilshire Boulevard will be cleared of car traffic Sunday to make way for walkers, bicyclists and others as part of the latest CicLAvia event.

A portion of the street between Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles to Fairfax Avenue will be blocked off to motorized traffic for the open-street festival.

Dubbed the "Iconic Wilshire Boulevard" route, the event will showcase the thoroughfare's museums, architecture and other cultural institutions.

The event, which lasts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., could draw as many as 100,000 people, according to organizers.

Hubs along the route -- located in the Miracle Mile, Mid-Wilshire, Koreatown, MacArthur Park and downtown Los Angeles areas -- will feature entertainment, activities and food trucks.

Participants can also listen to a podcast about the area's history and architecture or pick up a pocket walking guide at the hubs.

The next CicLAvia event will take place Oct. 5 in downtown Los Angeles, with an expanded route that includes Echo Park and East Los Angeles.

CicLAvia's roster of events this year also features its first South Los Angeles route set for Dec. 7.

Event organizers are aiming to put on as many as a dozen of the open- street events by 2017 outside the city of Los Angeles.
