Six Sheiks Earn All-League Softball Honors

The has been selected and two Hollywood High School players are on the first team.

Freshman , who played a variety of positions for the Sheiks, made the first team after batting .260 and slugging .320 with 14 runs, four RBIs, 13 hits and seven stolen bases in eight attempts.

Sophomore first baseman/catcher also made the first team after batting .386 and slugging .544 with 18 runs, 16 RBIs, 33 hits and one home and 10 stolen bases in 1o tries. She struck out just five times and had a .891 fielding percentage.

Martinez, a senior pitcher/shortstop and co-captain, batted .234 and slugged .328 with 21 runs, 15 hits, six RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 17 attempts. She also pitched 38 innings, allowing 39 hits and 44 earned runs with 18 strikeouts.

Garcia, a junior pitcher/shortstop, batted .265 and slugged .347 with 14 runs, 13 hits, seven RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 10 attempts. She had a .957 fielding percentage and pitched 37 innings, allowing 36 hits and 53 earned runs with 34 strikeouts.

Gomez, a senior pitcher/third baseman, batted .406 and slugged .438 with 13 hits, 10 runs, five RBIs and nine steals in nine attempts. She also pitched 22 innings, allowing 25 hits and 17 earned runs with six strikeouts.

Delgado, a sophomore second baseman, had a .885 fielding percentage with seven hits, nine runs, four RBIs and five stolen bases in five tries.

The Sheiks were 6-15 overall and finished third in league behind Los Angeles and Torres.
