Kobe Bryant Almost Immortalized At Grauman's Chinese Theatre

Five-time NBA champion becomes the first athlete to have a hand and footprint ceremony at the Chinese Theatre, but it is unclear where the prints will finally end up.

After winning five NBA championship rings, a score of MVP titles, and an Olympic gold medal, basketball legend Kobe Bryant has another accomplishment to boast: His hands and feet were immortalized Saturday at the Mann Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

The Los Angeles Laker placed his hands and feet into a block of wet cement inside the theatre after introductions by late night hosts Jimmy Kimmel, George Lopez and others. Originally scheduled to take place outside in the famous forecourt, where all other historic hand and footprints of Hollywood stars are located, the ceremony was moved inside due to forecasted rain.

The question remains, however, of where Bryant's hand and footprints will be permanently installed. Repeated requests for an answer to Mann Theatre management and Bryant's publicist have gone unanswered. One theory, proposed by an insider, is that they will actually be installed outside of Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. However, Cassandra Zebisch, a spokesperson for the facility, told Patch that she had not heard of such plans.

If the prints were to be installed in the forecourt of the Chinese Theatre, they would be the first for someone not directly related to the film industry, and certainly the first for a sports figure.
