Emerson College to Celebrate Groundbreaking at Hollywood Campus

Emerson College will hold a ground breaking ceremony Thursday morning to mark construction of its new campus in Hollywood.

 on the school's 37,350-square-foot lot at 5960 W. Sunset Blvd. at Gordon Street. It is expected to open in the spring of 2014.

The Boston-based college has maintained a Los Angeles program since 1986. It currently rents space in Burbank, but purchased the vacant lot on Sunset Boulevard in 2008.

a 10-story building with classrooms, offices, a cafe and residential space. The building was designed by Thom Mayne of Morphosis Architects.

Hollywood Patch will be there for the celebration. Actor Henry Winkler will serve as "Master of Ceremonies." Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Councilman Eric Garcetti and Emerson College President Lee Pelton are expected to speak.
