L.A. City Council To Restrict Tour Sales Solicitation on City Sidewalks

The newly amended ordinance would retract the exception extended to tour bus companies and no longer would workers be able to harass patrons on Hollywood Boulevard.

Tour bus company workers would no longer be able to hawk sight-seeing tours from city sidewalks under an ordinance approved unanimously Wednesday by the Los Angeles City Council.

Sidewalk vending of other types of goods and services is illegal throughout the city. The newly amended ordinance -- which still needs the signature of the mayor to go into effect -- would do away with an exception extended to tour bus companies.

Tour sales solicitation is common along tourist-filled Hollywood streets, prompting complaints of aggressive sales tactics. The new restriction is aimed at controlling what Hollywood-area Councilman Mitch O'Farrell called a "wild west of tour sales."
