U.S. Deputy Marshal Shoots Suspected Fugitive in Hollywood

The incident was reported late Wednesday morning, officials said.

A man shot and wounded by a U.S. deputy marshal in Hollywood late Wednesday morning was an escapee from federal prison, authorities said.

The man's wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, said Brian Valladares of the U.S. Marshal's Office.

Paramedics took the suspect to the hospital and no other injuries were reported.

Calladares said the man had escaped from a federal prison. The shooting occured as a U.S. Marshal's task force was trying to catch him, he said.

Traffic was tied up in the Hollywood area for several hours as authorities investigated the shooting.

The shooting occured at Sunset Boulevard and Wilton Place at 11:51 a.m. said Gregory Baek of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations office.

Valladares said he did not know what crime the man had committed or where it occurred.
