Temecula CHP Officer Named Athlete of Year by Bodybuilding Group

Mike Lassig was honored last week by the International Natural Bodybuilding Association.

CHP Officer Mike Lassig of Temecula has been named Athlete of the Year for the International Natural Bodybuilding Association.

Lassig, who has been bodybuilding for 20 years, earned the title last week at an international event in Reno, NV.

“I find it amazing that even when Mike has to work graveyards and other odd schedules, he still eats clean and makes time to work out,” said CHP spokesman Nathan Baer in a press release.

“I’ve known Mike for over 10 years and he has always looked this fit; he has tremendous dedication.  People make jokes about cops and donuts, I can tell you this: Mike might know what a doughnut looks like, but I bet he can’t remember what one tastes like."

Lassig—listed as 5-foot-9 and 189 pounds—also took first in the Mr. Los Angeles Natural Body Building Championships + International Police, Fire, and Emergency Services in June.

He plans to compete again next year.

The “natural” used in these bodybuilding events denotes that performance-enhancing drugs are banned.

Other bodybuilding groups—such as those in the days of Arnold Schwarzennegger’s career—permit anabolic steroids, insulin, diuretics and human growth hormone.

Side note: fitness saved me. People who mock and say " ewww muscle, why?" Well I was a starving dancer my entire childhood..... not blessed with a natural metabolism, but trying to be the skinny ballerina ..... that I am not..... I'm athetic build by nature..... fitness blessed me to love own understand myself..... so when people say "ewww too much muscle" STOP? THINK ABOUT IT? God created all types..... your norm?? May not be minor, etc. Xoxox

Hey Mike, Congratulations on all that you have accomplished! You were a great kid and positive role model for your peers when I had you as a student way back in 8th grade at Temecula Middle School. I read about your body building career in the local newspaper and was impressed with both your work ethic and the positive image that you project. I am more impressed with your career as a CHP officer and the respect that you have gained for the fine work you do in law enforcement. Hey Mike, my wife always asks me why I cannot get more muscular like you? I tell her that marathon runners, like myself, will always be skinny and look malnourished and she just shrugs in disappointment! Take care Mike and I'll see you on the roads logging my long, often boring miles. Robert Eilek
