Weekend DUI Checkpoint in Redlands

The Police Traffic Unit are planning to conduct a DUI/drivers license checkpoint starting at 10 p.m. Friday.

Officers with the Redlands Police Traffic Unit are planning to conduct a DUI/drivers license checkpoint from 10 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes of Redlands Boulevard, between Sixth and Eighth streets.

A checkpoint scheduled last weekend in the same location was cancelled due to rain, police officials said.

Officers will speak with drivers and look for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, according to police officials.  Officers will also check driver’s licenses.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent, officials said.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Officers encourage motorists to report suspected drunk drivers to 9-1-1.

Remember, checkpoints are strictly voluntary in nature. They always require your consent when answering any investigatory questioning by law enforcement. In this country you are free to give consent as you are free to withhold consent and inquire when you are free to go.
