Preparing Parents Foundation to Be Honored by LAPD Police Chief

The foundation's director applauded for her work helping LAPD officers.

The director of Preparing Parents Foundation, Adrienne Mack, will be honored by Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck at today's Police Commission meeting for her efforts in helping officers in their dealings with children.

Mack first came to Beck's attention early in 2010, when she teamed up with the LAPD's South Traffic Division, whose officers were providing instruction on car seat safety at her parenting workshops.

Shortly afterward, Mack discovered that police officers required to take infants into custody are not equipped with infant supplies, forcing them to purchase them at their own expense. In response, Mack created a program, the Baby Station Temporary Diaper Bag Program.

The next year, Mack found that the so-called soft rooms used by officers interacting with children during police interviews were not child-friendly, so she added murals, books and toys at the 77th Street, Southwest, Hollywood and Newton stations.

"The impact of her hard work will forever remain engrained in the hearts of the citizens of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Police Department,'' Beck said.
