Photos: Firefighters Observe 9/11 in Hollywood

A ceremony held at the LAFD Historical Society Museum honors the memory of those who lost their lives helping others on Sept. 11.

The chime of a bell rang out at 6:59 a.m. Tuesday morning from the Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Hollywood, marking the collapse of the south tower at the World Trade Center on 9/11.

The ceremony was held at the LAFD Historical Society Museum in observance of Patriot's Day. A U.S flag in the courtyard was lowered to half-staff in honor of those who lost their lives.

Tuesday's ceremony included remarks from LAFD Chief Brian Cummings, Councilman Dennis Zine and retired LAFD Capt. Howard Kaplan who was deployed with 26 firefighters to assist in the recovery effort in New York.
