UPDATE: Man Stabbed on Metro Train near Vermont/Santa Monica Station

The incident occurs around 9:20 a.m.

 A man was stabbed today in a fight on a Metro Red Line train and taken to a hospital in grave condition, authorities said.

After the stabbing, the train came to stop at the Vermont/Santa Monica Station about 9:20 a.m., and the victim was taken to a hospital, according to Metro spokesman Marc Littman.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Katherine Main said the wounded man was in grave condition when taken to a hospital.

The station was closed until about 11 a.m. while an investigation was conducted. Trains were "single-/tracking" through the area, Littman said.

According to some broadcast reports, the victim was cut in the throat.

Sheriff's deputies with the department's Transit Services Bureau were investigating the attack.

Only a vague description of the suspect -- a man -- was immediately available, sheriff's Lt. Albert Maldonado said.
