Update: Motorist Arrested in Fatal Figueroa Accident

Richard A. Edurson is under arrest for charges of vehicular manslaughter.

Richard A. Edurson, 24, has been arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department on charges of vehicular manslaughter following an accident that killed a pedestrian on North Figueroa Street early Thursday morning.

According to Sergeant Larry Delgado of LAPD's Central Traffic Division, Edurson was found to be under the influence of an intoxicant at the time of the accident.

Central Traffic's incident report states that Edurson was traveling on North Figueroa Street north of Woodside Drive in his vehicle when he lost control and crashed into a pedestrian, who was pinned between Edurson's Jeep and a parked Toyota.

Edurson's vehicle then continued along Figueroa before crashing against a tree.

The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Edurson suffered a broken clavicle bone and a head laceration in the accident.

Correction: An initial report, provided by City News Service, inaccurately indicated that a passenger was ejected from the vehicle and killed. LAPD Central Traffic confirmed this report when speaking to Patch on Thursday morning. However, Sergeant Delgado has stated that there was no passenger ejection. We regret the error.

Neckbeard, You bring up a valid point - that a people-oriented street might not be necessary for a community to thrive. I would counter that the communities that have come back have become more people-oriented as a result of them being re-invested in - more street closures for farmers markets, more shops that cater to people walking or riding transit. I have spent a large chunk of my waking and sleeping hours on this street - so I am heavily vested in having it be as quiet and as safe as possible. You know what is super messed up about this? The guy who killed this pedestrian will get his drivers license back in a few years - even after serving time for killing someone while DUI. So you guys are are partially right: road design isn't the whole story here.

You idiots. My cousin was the VICTIM. He was stuck by the drunk driver.. On a CRAPPY street where even the LAPD have stuck AND KILLED ped's. And why is race even an issue?! It has NOTHING to do with this.. The person driving with the DUI had a suspended license when he stuck my cousin. So take your pick people.. I would love to see what changes you would want if it were your family member. Crappy street with lots of busy pedestrians, slow it down. DUI drivers, harder punishments. You name it, we want it.

Death leaves a heartache so great that at times appear to never heal, but love leaves you so many memories no one can ever steal. My sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones.

That street could use more lights for sure but I dont think that is going to stop drunk idiots like Richard Edurson. Lets get down to business and get this irresponsible nit off the streets! If thats even his real name?!? RIP babe. I love you. You gave so much love to so many people..you didn't deserve this.
