UPDATED: Officer Shot Responding to Domestic Dispute in Laurel Canyon Area

An officer-involved shooting at a Hollywood Hills home today left a policewoman injured and a suspect who barricaded himself in the residence dead, police said.

The shooting occurred after officers went to the multi-story home in the 8200 block of Gould Ave., a winding road off Laurel Canyon Boulevard, shortly after 8 a.m. on a report of a domestic battery, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

LAPD Officer Diana Figueroa said the injured officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

In a statement released about 10:30 a.m. via Twitter, LAPD Chief Beck said he "spoke with our wounded officer. Thankfully she is doing well. Please keep her and our officers in your thoughts and prayers."

It was unclear if the officer was hit by bullet fragments or debris, said LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado. A civilian also was taken to a hospital for treatment of an unknown problem, according to police, who said the officer's partner also went to the hospital, but was uninjured.

Preciado said early this afternoon that a SWAT team made entry to the residence and found the suspect dead. The SWAT officers did not fire any rounds, Preciado said.

The name and age of the suspect were not immediately known. Preciado said the suspect had been shot, but it was unclear how many times.

Laurel Canyon Boulevard was closed near Gould Avenue while an investigation was conducted.
