Off-Duty Police Officer Involved in Hollywood Shooting

An LAPD officer working security at the Hollywood Palladium shoots a suspect who had stabbed him during a confrontation Wednesday night.

An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer who was working security at a Hollywood Palladium concert shot a man who had injured him during a confrontation Wednesday night, police said.

People were walking to the parking lot after a concert around 10 p.m. when the shooting occurred on El Centro Avenue, north of Sunset Boulevard, said Officer Christopher No, a spokesman for the LAPD. The injured officer and suspect were taken to a hospital.

Preliminary reports indicated the suspect was armed with a knife, No said. The man stabbed the officer, who then withdrew his weapon and ordered the suspect to drop the knife, No said.

The suspect was shot once in the back and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, No said.

An administrative and criminal investigation are under way, with the officer considered a crime victim, No said. Charges have not been determined.
