No Thanksgiving Weekend Fatalities on Los Angeles Freeways (So Far)

Last year, four fatalities occurred over the holiday weekend.

The California Highway Patrol reported Saturday no traffic-related fatalities on Los Angeles county highways, roads and streets during the first 60 hours of the four-day Thanksgiving holiday.

Last year, during the same reporting period, the CHP reported four traffic-related fatalities in L.A. County. The reporting period began at 6 p.m. Wednesday and ended at 6 a.m. Saturday.

In Los Angeles County, CHP officers arrested 200 motorists on suspicion of drunken driving, a few more than last year's total of 182. Statewide, there were 903 DUI arrests, a drop from last year's count of 975.

Statewide, 14 fatalities were reported, including one bicyclist and a pedestrian. Nine of the vehicle occupants killed were not wearing seatbelts, the CHP reported. Last year, 11 people were killed in the comparable period.
