A man spotted skulking in the backyard of a Hollywood home Wednesday was gone by the time police arrived and may have just been hiding from someone, a lieutenant told Patch.
The man was spotted about noon in the 6500 block of Leland Way, Lt. Mark Reina told Patch.
A caller reported seeing a burglary but further investigation led police to believe that perhaps the man was hiding from someone on the street.
A patrol unit with two officers went to the scene to investigate, checking the backyard and driving around the neighborhood but found nothing, the lieutenant said.
The lieutenant took the opportunity to warn residents not to leave items visible in their vehicles, even such seemingly insignificant items as telephone chargers.
"The biggest issue is property crime right now," Reina told Patch.
"They'll take anything, phone chargers, backpacks," the lieutenant said, adding that many times the items are sold for money or exchanged for drugs, crystal methamphetamine being the main drug in that area.
