The Los Angeles Police Department Rampart Division released a statement Tuesday and provided details from an officer-involved shooting that occurred on May 17 on the 500 block of N. Madison Avenue in East Hollywood.
The man who was shot was identified as Moises Palacios. According to the LAPD, officers responded at 9:50 p.m. to an apartment building after someone called 911 and said Palacios had punched his mother in the face, was brandishing a knife and had "threatened suicide and his mother."
According to the LAPD's statement, which was posted on the LAPD Rampart Division's website:
Upon arrival, officers entered the location and were confronted by the suspect, later identified as Moises Palacios. He was armed with two knives and uncooperative. When ordered to drop the knives, he ignored the officers’ command and lunged at them holding the two knives. An officer involved shooting then ensued, at which time Palacios was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground where he was taken into custody.
A Los Angeles Fire Department Ambulance responded and transported Palacios to a local hospital where he was treated and listed in critical but stable condition. No officers were injured, and several knives were recovered from the scene.
Los Angeles Police Department Force Investigation Division (FID) responded to the incident and will be handling the investigation of the officer-involved shooting.
