Authorities today evacuated the mailroom at KTLA in Hollywood after the discovery of an envelope containing white powder, which turned out to be non-hazardous, police said.
Police and fire department personnel were dispatched at 10:37 a.m. to the station at 5800 W. Sunset Blvd.
The powder tested negative for anthrax, which was the first substance feared to be in the envelope, and additional tests were then done for other possible hazardous materials, according to Los Angeles police Officer Bruce Borihanh.
Early this afternoon, tests determined that the powder was not a hazard, Borihanh said. The investigation was continuing, however, and involved the FBI and the LAPD.
The powder was inside an envelope addressed to KTLA that was opened in the mailroom, KTLA news director Jason Bell said.
