Narrow access roads and a lack of water slowed firefighters' attempts to extinguish a small brush fire in the Hollywood Hills early today.

The fire was reported on the hillside below the Griffith Park Observatory around 2:30 a.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said.

While small at a quarter of an acre, the fire took 44 firefighters 67 minutes to knock down, Scott said.

No injuries were reported or structures threatened, he said.

Let's remember that the City Council had proposed a new 2 acre Regional Fire Station for Hollywood, but Garcetti's wanted the property for a mixed-use project. Thus, Garcetti had the city council go in to closed session and he and LeBonge killed the 2 acre FS 82 and replaced it with a 1/2 acre fire station in Gridlock Hell -- the intersection of Hollywood Blvd, the 101 Freeway and Van Ness. The smaller station and new location increased the response times to the Hills, not does Garcetti ever have any money to improve the roads in the Hills. While fires can be spectacular, the Hills face a more constant danger. After Garcetti cut $200 Million from the paramedics and firefighters, it takes the paramedics longer to get to people, especially in the Hills, and the County Grand Jury found that as a result, people have needlessly died. Rather than give $67 M to the LAFD, Garcetti gave $67 M to Korean Airlines.

Wasn't that during the Blood Moon eclipse? Observers must have been smoking - not allowed in the high brush hillside areas but who was watching, anyhow?
