Burglars Using Breaker Boxes to See if Anyone’s Home

Murrieta police are advising residents about a recent crime trend targeting firearms.

The Murrieta Police Department is warning residents about a recent string of burglaries involving suspects turning off power to homes to see if anyone is inside.

Police have received several calls about residential burglaries targeting firearms, with the suspects accessing an outdoor breaker box and shutting off power. If nobody comes out to investigate, the burglars break into the home and steal valuables, especially firearms, as they ransack the residence.

The police department is reminding gun owners to keep their firearms well secured.

The investigation into these incidents is ongoing. Anyone with any information regarding these crimes should contact the on-duty watch commander at (951)-696-3615. You can also provide information anonymously through We Tip at 1-800-78-Crime.

Sad story LBV and you are correct, responsible gun owners should have all of the necessary protections. I know we do.

Me too, Mike. BTW: Here's a link to an outdoor security light (with motion detection and memory card) that I've been considering: http://www.amazon.com/NightWatcher-Motion-tracking-Motorized-Camera/dp/B005K7ZD0K Here's a link to the company's website: http://www.nightwatchersecurity.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1&Itemid=2

Several months ago in Heritage Lake our power went off at about the same time as the annoying dog next door started barking. It was 11PM. I cautiously went out the side door of the garage. They had shut the breaker off. I thanked my neighbor the next day for his "annoying dog". He said it was probably kids. Now, I'm not so sure. From now on, my gun is much easier to reach.

I looked at a display of one of these special outdoor security lights at COSTCO in Temecula Wednesday. I looked at the link to the distributor or factory that LBV posted just above here. Important to note from the link there are various models with different optional features. like recording video on a normal memory chip, or linked or transmitted to your computer or TV. to Important to know if you price compare. The web site lists there product is available at Costco (stores only), Home Depot, Walmart, Amazon, and several other stores.

WOW! I just read the link to Amazon that LBV posted above. The description with that ad is the same as the description on the box at Costco. Amazon price was $231, Costco price is just under $160. The model at Costco is white. The description sounds great. The light focus head rotates to follow the movment of the intruder. and has a date time stamp. It records for 20 seconds at each activation. You can set it to give out a VERBAL warning when activated that you can record or use a built in one. BUT if you read the customer reviews in the Amazon link, they are mostly terrible. Be sure to read them if you consider buying this. Complaints were mostly it quit working after a few days. and no response from manufacturer, etc. COSTCO has an excellent return policy and will not keep selling this if it fails to be a good product.
