A witness told CHP officers it appeared the truck driver fell asleep at the wheel, but that has not been confirmed, Kimball said. The crash remained under investigation by the CHP, he said.

The CHP declared a SigAlert at 3:21 p.m., Kimball said. The damaged truck and vehicles were removed and all the lanes were cleared by about 5:20 p.m., Kimball said.
