Authorities Find Man Growing Marijuana In Flooded Apartment

Police arrest the man after firefighters responding to a sprinkler alarm find dozens of marijuana plants in his apartment, authorities say.

A man whose Thai Town apartment was flooded when he broke a fire sprinkler that he was using to water his marijuana plants was arrested Thursday after responding firefighters discovered the indoor farm and called police, authorities said.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews went to the building at 5432 Harold Way around 12:20 a.m. in response to the sprinkler alarm, said Officer Randolph Agard of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Station.

The police officers summoned by firefighters found dozens of growing plants and several pounds of dried marijuana in his flooded apartment, Agard said, adding that the suspect was booked on suspicion of marijuana possession with intent to distribute, and illegal cultivation.

He was using the sprinkler to water his plants and somehow broke it, Agard said.

The suspect's name was not immediately released. The sprinkler break left a foot of water in the man's apartment and a hallway, Agard said.
