$35K Reward Offered in Hollywood-Weho Fires

More rewards are expected for information leading to the conviction of the person or people responsible for setting at least 17 fires in the area overnight.

Reward money totaling $35,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for setting at least 17 fires in Hollywood and West Hollywood overnight, authorities said Friday.

At a press conference Friday afternoon, County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said the county is offering a $25,000 reward. The Los Angeles Times is reporting the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a $10,000 reward.

Yaroslavsky said the city of Los Angeles also will likely offer a reward.

Authorities said the fires started with cars in parking lots or carports and a few quickly spread to neighboring buildings. One damaged home on Rothdell Trail in Hollywood Hills was once the home of Doors frontrunner Jim Morrison. The house is said to have been the inspiration for Morrison's song "Love Street."

The Los Angeles Fire Department is asking anyone with information to call its arson hotline at (800) 633-2836.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is encouraging anyone who sees suspicious activity in the area over the weekend to call 911 immediately.
