Hollywood Today: Fat Tuesday at Amoeba Music

Also: Weekly Homeless Ministry and Book Club are planned Tuesday.

Celebrate Fat Tuesday at Amoeba Music today. The Mardi Gras celebration kicks off at 3 p.m. with DJ’s spinning New Orleans party music. There will also be photo booths, Mardi Gras goodie bags for kids, and you can bring your own instruments for a Mardi Gras parade beginning at 4:30 p.m. While you’re there, enter a contest for a chance to win two, free tickets to fly to New Orleans.   • Hollywood United Methodist Church, at 6817 Franklin Ave., hosts its weekly homeless ministry from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the front gate of the church.   • The Young Artist Jazz Series presents Ultrasound at the Catalina Bar and Grill at 8:30 p.m. tonight. All ages are welcome. There is a $5 cover charge plus dinner and a two beverage minimum. To make reservations, or to find out more information, call 323-466-2210.
  • The Durant Book Club will meet at 1 p.m. today at the Will and Ariel Durant Library. The book, Room: A Novel, by Emma Donoghue will be today’s topic. Copies of the book will also be available in advance at the library. Call 323-876-2741 for more detailed information.
