Celebration of George Washington's Birthday to Be Held at Forest Lawn

The Sons of the American Revolution gear up for the annual "Massing of the Colors."

The Los Angeles/Southern California chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will hold its 30th annual “Massing of the Colors” on Sunday at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills in honor of President George Washington's birthday.

State Assembly candidate Betsy Butler and Councilwoman Jan Perry, will be on hand for the festivities. Brad Burlingame is this year’s featured speaker. Burlingame’s brother, Capt. Charles Burlingame, was a pilot on American Airlines Flight 77 when hijackers took over the plane on Sept. 11, 2001, and flew it into the Pentagon. Burlingame is also president of the West Hollywood Marketing and Visitors Bureau.

Organizer and West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tem Jeffrey Prang said the event aims to be “historical, patriotic, and educational” as well as appeal to students.

“The goal of the organization is to try to promote the history and culture of the founding of this country,” said Prang who is also secretary of the Los Angeles/Southern California chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. “The event is really aimed toward students but open to anybody with an interest in history.”

Local high school and college ROTC units are expected to participate in the ceremonial “Massing of the Colors," and some members of the Sons of the American Revolution will be in period costumes.

The event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills located at 6300 Forest Lawn Drive.
