Burglars Beware: Outpost Estates May Form Neighborhood Watch

Residents will gather Wednesday to discuss establishing a neighborhood crime prevention program.

Touched by a number of burglaries this year, it sounds like some residents in Outpost Estates are ready to form a neighborhood watch program and will hold a meeting Wednesday to see if enough residents are onboard.

Volunteers are needed to serve as block captains, according to their community newsletter. If not enough volunteers step up at the meeting, the program cannot be established.

The meeting will be in the Community Room at Highland Camrose Park, 2101 N. Highland Ave. at 7 p.m. Free parking is available inside the park and across Highland Avenue at the Hollywood Heritage Museum's parking lot.

Here's an excerpt from the Outpost Estates newsletter:

Over the past year we've been made aware of a few burglaries in Outpost. In those cases the victims spent countless hours afterward attempting to make contact with others in the neighborhood to gather evidence/information and alert residents. It often turned out that a resident a few blocks away spotted suspicious activity preceding the crime that could have been shared with the neighborhood as well as our Senior Lead Officer and helped to prevent the incident or at least served as a reminder to be more vigilant about home security.

In the interest of establishing a crime prevention program for residents that would facilitate the sharing of information and proactive involvement of law enforcement, a Neighborhood Watch program has been proposed. We need your help. We need volunteers - especially people willing to serve as Block Captains. In most cases all that's required is that you get the contact information of your neighbors so you can serve as a link in the chain to disseminate information if and when suspicious activity or an actual crime is witnessed.

We hope you'll join us for a meeting with our Senior Lead Officer, Nicole Montgomery, (May 30) so that we can establish our own Neighborhood Watch program. If you are interested, please attend. If we don't have volunteers come forward, the program cannot be established.
