While the Sunrise Easter service at the has been a tradition for decades, this year the Sunday celebration is a not possible due to general maintenance work at the iconic venue.
The work is part of off-season construction at the Hollywood Bowl, a Los Angeles Philharmonic spokesperson told Patch.
The service has been canceled several times in the past due to renovations at the Hollywood Bowl and lack of financial support.
Bel Air Presbyterian Church hosted at the Bowl. Easter services at Bel Air Presbyterian Church are scheduled for 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Sunday. The services will also be streamed live online.
In previous years, Easter services were sponsored by the Hollywood Bowl Easter Sunrise Service, Inc., said Patricia Langlois, secretary of the organization. She is disappointed the group will not be able to hold the service this year even if the Hollywood Bowl had been available.
“We aren’t having it,” Langlois said. “We didn’t have the money.”
The Hollywood Bowl Easter Sunrise Service, Inc., relies on donations to fund the celebration. Organizers told Patch last year they had hoped to in time to celebrate the event's 90th anniversary in 2012.
Alternative Easter services in Hollywood include:
will host a nondenominational Easter Sunrise Service at 6 a.m. at the park’s Forecourt of the Birth of Liberty.
, at 1760 N. Gower St., will hold its Easter Sunday Service at 9 a.m.
will have services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. with the “Easter edition” of a church tour at 12:15 p.m.
has services scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
has English masses scheduled for 7:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
