Tom LaBonge said today his chief of staff, who hopes to succeed the termed-out Los Angeles city councilman, is taking a leave of absence to focus on her campaign.

Carolyn Ramsay's duties will be taken over by Ramon Richard Alatorre, a retired former pilot with the Los Angeles Police Department, LaBonge said.

The Fourth District council race is expected to be crowded, with fundraising papers already submitted by as many as a dozen would-be candidates hoping to gain voters' support in the March 3 election, including Ramsay.

The aspiring council members together had raised more than $250,000 as of the end of last year.

Joan Pelico, a resident of CD4, continues to serve the constituency of CD5 as Paul Koretz's Chief of Staff while also preparing to seek the City Council seat for CD4. Service remains more important, it seems, than politics.

She's also more qualified than LaBonge. At least you won't have to hear anymore about how he played football at Marshall anymore.....and that's a good thing.
