Wind Advisory in Effect for Hollywood Hills

Strong wind gusts hit the Southland, prompting advisories throughout the area.

Gusty winds are expected in the Hollywood Hills area until Monday afternoon.

A wind advisory will be in effect until 4 p.m. in the Hollywood Hills, the San Gabriels and Santa Monicas, valley and coastal areas, as well as downtown and in the rest of metropolitan Los Angeles.

The strong winds are the result of a cold upper-level low-pressure system, according to the National Weather Service.

Some winds struck at more than 60 miles per hour Monday, prompting forecasters to warn residents of dangerous mountain-driving conditions, downed trees and power lines throughout the region.

"These strong winds will likely translate down to the surface across portions of Los Angeles and Ventura counties," a National Weather Service advisory said. "The strongest winds will be focused across Los Angeles County mountains, as well as the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley and San Fernando Valley."
