Weekend Planner: Amoeba Concert, Used Book Sale and a 9/11 Commemoration

Here are a few options of things to do in Hollywood this weekend.

Not sure what to do this weekend? How about enjoying a live, rock concert at Amoeba Music? Or browse through a great selection of used books. Enjoy a James Dean classic, Rebel Without a Cause. Dance at Avalon Hollywood with DJ Sander Kleinenberg taking over. Or head to The Autry in Griffith Park for a 9/11 commemoration with stories of courage.

1. The Latebirds Live Show

Why go: If you’re in the mood for a rock concert, then come to Amoeba Music and enjoy a live, alternative-country, roots and folk-rock, and power-pop concert by The Latebirds, a rock band from Helsinki, Finland.

2. Used Book Sale

Where/When: , 4591 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, 90029. Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m.

Why go: The Cahuenga Branch Library is having a great, used book sale. Browse through many used books and purchase them at great bargain prices.

Price: Free  

3. Screening of Rebel Without a Cause

Where/ When: Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, 90038. Saturday, Sept. 10, gates open at 6:30 p.m.

Why go: Head to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for a screening of Rebel Without a Cause, directed by Nicholas Ray and starring James Dean. Enjoy live music as DJ Carlos Nino spins before and after the screening. Make sure to bring your blankets, drinks and a picnic dinner.

Price: $10 at the gate.

4. DJs Sander Kleinenberg and Kazell Live Show

Where/When:  , 1735 Vine St., Los Angeles, 90028. Saturday, Sept. 10 at 9:30 p.m.

Why go: Avalon Hollywood presents a live dance and techno music show with DJs Sander Kleinenberg and Kazell. This is a great show for electro-techno enthusiasts with DJ Sander Kleinenberg taking you on a ride of great dance music.

5. A Commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11

Where/When: The Autry in Griffith Park, 4700 Western Heritage Way, Los Angeles, 90027. Sunday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m.

Why go: Join The Autry in Griffith Park in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 with the museum's teachers for a special storytime, featuring books on what it means to be courageous. Afterward, enjoy a live western music concert by Rusty Richards.

Price: For the 9/11 commemoration, tickets are $10 general admission; Students with current ID and Seniors (60+) $6; Children (3–12) $4; Children under 3 and Autry members free. For the Rusty Richards Concert, tickets are $15 for WMA and Autry members and $20 for mon-members. Visit the website to purchase tickets.
