Cesar Chavez Honored This Week; City Offices Closed Monday

City and state offices are closed Monday, schools and courts are closed Friday in honor of Cesar Chavez Day.

Local agencies are closed at different times this week in honor of Cesar Chavez Day.

City of Los Angeles offices are closed Monday including libraries and animal shelters.

The Los Angeles Superior Court and public schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District are closed on Friday—an early holiday prior to spring break.

Los Angeles County offices are encouraging employees to volunteer in a variety of activities. Public services will continue as scheduled.

It's all to celebrate Chávez, who was a labor leader and civil rights activist who co-founded the group that later became the United Farm Workers.

The Department of Motor Vehicles remains open. Most state offices will be closed Friday. Federal offices and services, including the U.S. Postal Service, will be open.

Banks, Metro bus, subway, train and trash collection services will all operate on their regular schedules.

Los Angeles County for the past 10 years has remembered Chávez with a week of service in which county employees are encouraged to volunteer in the spirit of Chávez's commitment to help others.
