Summer Shower Passes Through Hollywood

Forecasters predict a 20-percent chance of rain early Friday.

Step outside Thursday night? For a few hours weather conditions felt similar to Hollywood, Florida rather than the traditional Southern California summer that we all come to expect.

These "somewhat rare" summertime nocturnal thunderstorms result from a combination of upper level disturbance moving over coastal waters, as well as plenty of mid level monsoonal moisture and an unstable atmosphere, according to a National Weather Service special weather statement.

The light shower was enough to prompt Hollywood Bowl-goers to don make-shift ponchos, cancel tennis lessons at Griffith Park and leave slick city streets.

While the rain left Hollywood wet, the rainfall was not substantial enough to register at the Hollywood Reservoir's rain gauge, according to the Weather Service's rainfall report Friday morning.

As for today's forecast, there's a 20-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms early Friday morning. Expect a partly cloudy day with highs in the mid 80s.
