A chase on the 101 Freeway that originated in Ventura County during rush hour ended in Hollywood around 9 a.m.

California Highway Patrol officers were pursuing a black Mercedes Benz heading south on the 101 Freeway.

The chase began shortly after 8 a.m. on the southbound Ventura (101) Freeway near Pleasant Valley Road in the Camarillo area, where officers saw the car being driven at a high rate of speed, CHP Officer Ed Jacobs said.

At times, the driver, who is now in custody, appeared to be traveling at 100 miles per hour then slowed to 20 mph when encountering traffic in Sherman Oaks.

About 8:45 a.m. in the Studio City area, the Mercedes transitioned onto the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway. Close to 10 minutes later, the motorist—whose name and age have not been released—stopped near Gower Street and surrendered. A passenger also was taken into custody.

In Hollywood, officers blocked off southbound lanes for a short time while they took two people into custody.

The Mercedes had not been reported stolen, CHP officials said.
