Motorcyclist Leads Police on High-Speed Chase
The driver was later arrested in the North Hollywood area after falling off his motorcycle.
A motorcyclist led police on a weaving chase from San Bernardino County through the San Gabriel Valley today, occasionally punching side mirrors off vehicles he passed before veering into a construction zone near North Hollywood, where he was arrested.
The pursuit began when California Highway Patrol officers tried to pull the motorcyclist over for speeding in the Rancho Cucamonga area in San Bernardino County around 3:30 p.m., according to the CHP.
The motorcyclist rode west into Los Angeles County, with authorities in pursuit in patrol cars, on motorcycles and in helicopters. As he rode, the motorcyclist reached and punched side mirrors on several vehicles, appearing at one point to injure his left hand as he punched the side of a pickup truck.
He continued weaving in and out of lanes, turning at one point to make an obscene gesture at pursuing officers.
As he rode into the North Hollywood area, he veered the motorcycle into a construction area, eventually falling from the bike, apparently in pain. He was quickly apprehended by pursuing CHP officers.
CHP Officer Ming Shu said the motorcyclist was traveling at speeds up to 90 mph during the chase.
