Missing Hollywoodland Signs Under Police Investigation

Residents noticed the plaques at the entrance to the neighborhood were missing in April, the LA Times reports.

Police are investigating the theft of two historic plaques from the entrance to one of Hollywood's most famous neighborhoods, reports the LA Times.

In April, some Hollywood residents say they attempted to file a crime report when they noticed the bronze "Hollywoodland Est 1923" markers were missing, but were not allowed to because the markers are considered city property.

Late last week, City Council Field Deputy Sharon Shapiro contacted police and was advised that a senior lead officer for the Hollywood area would file a report on behalf the city.

A city official estimated that the cost of replacing the markers will be about $500 each.
